Nevada Ballet Theatre’s
Education & Outreach
Division: Future Dance
Nevada Ballet Theatre has
been a leader in arts
education since its
inception. Future Dance, its
recognized and successful
outreach program, was
established in 1993 and
currently serves over 6,000
students a year through its
initiatives. By offering
in-school dance classes and
the chance to earn
scholarships, Future Dance
seeks to expose children
from at-risk communities to
the art form of dance. In
addition, all students in
Clark County have the
opportunity to attend main
stage performances through
Nevada Ballet Theatre’s
School Matinee Series.
Serving approximately 700
students in grades three
through five in Clark County
Public Schools, Future Dance
offers 25 weeks of free
after-school dance classes
in 14 at-risk schools.
Students are taught a
variety of disciplines, with
a focus on ballet, jazz and
hip-hop. In addition, the
Academy of Nevada Ballet
Theatre hosts over 20
students from Future Dance
who now train on full or
partial scholarship.
Future Dance consists of
three distinct programs:
Future Dance In Schools
Future Dance In Schools
offers students in-school
dance classes as well as the
chance to attend Dance
Observations (formerly Smart
Steps), an interactive
orientation on the history
of dance presented by
professional dancers of
Nevada Ballet Theatre.
Dance Discovery (formerly
Creative Communities)
Dance Discovery is a
satellite program offering
students of need preparatory
level ballet classes at the
West Las Vegas Arts Center.
Students may or may not be
graduates of the Future
Dance In Schools program.
Through these two
programs, students will
garner live performance
experience by participating
in a choreographed year-end
production, showcasing their
accomplishments. In
addition, those who excel
through talent and
dedication may have the
opportunity to continue
their dance studies via full
scholarship to the Academy
of Nevada Ballet Theatre.
School Matinee Series
Students of public,
private and parochial
schools are invited to attend main stage
performances of Nevada
Ballet Theatre’s professional productions
at discounted rates. Held on
Friday mornings at 10:30 am,
school matinees take place
at UNLV’s Performing Arts Center.
Future Dance Needs Your
Support
Future Dance actively
engages children in the
arts, therefore, establishing positive
habits at an early age.
Students learn to develop a healthy
self-esteem and a positive
work ethic. Critical to the success
of Future Dance is our
proven ability to fund and manage the above
programs, provide high
quality instructors and build
community advocacy. With
continued donor support and recognition,
Nevada Ballet Theatre can
continue to build and maintain these
programs.
