The mission of Nevada Ballet Theatre is to educate and inspire statewide, regional and national audiences and vitally impact community life through professional company productions, dance training and education and outreach. Nevada Ballet Theatre is the resident ballet company of The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

Founded in 1972, Nevada Ballet Theatre is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and the largest professional ballet company and dance academy in the state.

We are thrilled to have a new performance home at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts; however, there are additional expenses involved with our move to this state-of-the-art venue.

Ticket sales only cover 25% of our annual production and operating expenses.

In December of 2012, NBT will debut an all-new production of The Nutcracker choreographed by Artistic Director James Canfield. This annual holiday favorite will include new sets and costumes.
Dancers - Pointe Shoes - Costumes

We have 19 Company Dancers and 10 Trainees for our 2011-2012 Season.

Our company dancers train an average of 10 hours a day for 6 days per week.

Nevada Ballet Theatre female dancers go through an average of 30 pairs of pointe shoes per season ($85 per pair) for a cost of ~$2,550 per female dancer/per season.

Pointe shoes are custom crafted to suit each ballerina’s particular specifications and preferences.

These delicate handmade shoes are made with cardboard, glue and satin.

Young dancers must study ballet for 4-5 years before going en pointe; it requires a great deal of strength in the legs, ankles, and feet as well as strong turnout.

Approximately 180 feet of ribbon ($25 per yard) is used by each female dancer for a cost of ~$1,500 each season.

Due to the delicate nature of tulle, tutus must be hand-made. It takes approximately 10 yards of tulle per tutu and an average of 40 hours to assemble and sew the bodice and the bottom piece of the tutu.

Each dancer uses approximately one pair of tights per week at $25 each. The total cost per season for tights is ~$650 for each dancer.

Each male dancer uses approximately two pairs of tights during The Nutcracker performances at $32 per pair.

Male dancers go through approximately 2 pairs of ballet flats at $35 each per dancer during The Nutcracker performances.
Future Dance - Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Education & Outreach Program
Since 1993, Future Dance has provided a premier arts education to students in underserved populations. GO-MOVE-DANCE!!! offers free, in-school dance instruction, Dance Discovery and the Future Dance Scholar programs give dedicated students training in a more focused atmosphere and A DOLLAR FOR DANCE affords all students in Clark County the opportunity to attend main stage performances for only $1. Students in GO-MOVE-DANCE!!!, Dance Discovery and the Future Dance Scholar program participate in an annual Spring Concert in May.

Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Future Dance program is one of the oldest and most successful dance education programs in the Clark County school district.

GO-MOVE-DANCE!!! resides in 11 local elementary schools, providing weekly dance classes for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders – keeping kids active, keeping kids dancing.

Nevada Ballet Theatre serves over 4,000 students annually through its Education & Outreach initiatives: GO-MOVE-DANCE!!!, Dance Discovery, the Future Dance Scholar Program and its school matinee program, A DOLLAR FOR DANCE.

It costs an average of $200 per bus to bring children to the school matinee performances as part of the A DOLLAR FOR DANCE program. Over 30 buses are needed per year.

Nevada Ballet Theatre currently hosts 80 students on scholarship between its Dance Discovery program and its Future Dance Scholars Program – children who would not have the opportunity to be exposed to such a beautiful art form.

Scholarships for our Future Dance children cost between $375 and $3,050 each depending on the level. NBT offers between 25-30 scholarships per season to enable these dedicated students the opportunity to continue their dance studies at the Academy.

Costumes for our Future Dance concerts cost an average of $1,000 per season.
Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre
The Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre is the official school of Nevada Ballet Theatre and the premier ballet and dance training center of Southern Nevada. Founded in 1979, the Academy is guided by a commitment to excellence in classical ballet tradition. Offering training in many forms of dance with classes for students 18 months of age through adult, the Academy is housed in a 36,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, offering the highest standard of artistic education taught by distinguished and world-renowned instructors.

The Academy currently has approximately 400 students enrolled for the 2011-2012 season.

The Ballet levels 1 through 8 follow a structured sequence of training stages designed to increase technical skills, stamina and discipline in accordance with age and individual physical development. The fundamentals of ballet training include: balance, coordination, vocabulary, flexibility, body awareness, muscle development, strength and how music relates to movement and artistic expression.

The Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre has a Spring Concert annually where students from all ages and class levels are given the opportunity to perform on stage.
