About the Academy

The Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality training in the art of ballet and other forms of dance to all students. The Academy offers a variety of tracks for any student wishing to gain a quality dance education. The Academys programs are designed to guide each individual student so they can achieve his or her personal goal; from having a professional career in dance, to earning a degree in a university, or simply for personal enrichment. Ultimately, all students will gain life skills of discipline, dedication, and determination through the study of dance.

The various levels and grades of the Academy represent a progressive, graded approach to the exploration of dance. As students grow and mature, they are expected to tolerate longer classes, an increase in intensity of work, and greater demands for exactitude. At the same time, students are encouraged to develop the imagination and artistic sensibilities that will enable them to become performing artists, choreographers or teachers. It is our hope that all of our students will arrive at a better understanding and greater appreciation of dance as an art form.

About the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre

Under the direction of Academy Director Victoria Stocki-Kim, The Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre is the official school of Nevada Ballet Theatre and the premiere ballet and dance training center of Southern Nevada . Founded in 1979, the Academy is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality dance training to all students.

The Academy is guided by a philosophy of commitment to classical ballet tradition, yet seeks to provide training in all forms of dance to the broadest possible audience. With instruction in Ballet, Technique, Pointe, Variations, Repertoire, Character, Lyrical, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Tap and Hip-Hop, classes are offered for students three years of age to adult.

The Academy has a faculty of approximately twenty qualified instructors who teach various levels and grades in a progressive, graded approach through five programs: The Pre-Professional Program, an intensive ballet program, The Training Program, a progressive ballet program, The Children's Program for young children, The Dance Program, offering classes in all forms of dance, and The Adult Program. Special programs include a three-week Summer Intensive Program with internationally acclaimed guest instructors and a Creative Dance Camp for younger children.

Each year, Academy students are selected by audition to become a member of the Nevada Ballet Theatre Youth Company, the official pre-professional company of Nevada Ballet Theatre. These individuals are cast in children's roles in Nevada Ballet Theatre productions including The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Giselle and Peter Pan. The Youth Company performs excerpts from classical ballets as well as soloist and corps de ballet works in the annual Spring Concert. In addition, the company performs in community events throughout the year such as the Ice Cream Festival and the Summerlin Arts Festival.

Training at the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre is designed to guide each student to achieve his or her personal goal; whether it is a professional career in dance, or simply for artistic enrichment and exercise. At the Academy, life skills of discipline, dedication, and determination are acquired through the study of ballet and the performing arts.

The Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre is housed at the magnificent Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center in Summerlin, where students have the opportunity to train alongside the professional dancers of Nevada Ballet Theatre. The 36,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility, built by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation on land donated by The Howard Hughes Corporation, encompasses seven studios including the rehearsal and training complex for the professional company. Indisputably one of the finest dance facilities in the nation, the Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center is home to almost 500 students and 41 professional dancers.

We are thankful for the continued support of the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts.  Through the annual Liberace Scholarship, exemplary students of the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre are awarded the opportunity to continue training in an effort to grow and strengthen as dancers.  In addition to the money allocated to the Academy for scholarships, Nevada Ballet Theatre's apprentice program (under the professional company of dancers) is being sponsored in part by the Liberace Foundation for the 2007-2008 season.
